Molyan is a small-batch clothing label made entirely by hand in Austin, Texas. Each piece is built around chainstitch embroidery, a traditional technique reworked with a playful, modern hand, and no two garments are exactly alike. Rooted in the colors and wide skies of West Texas, Molyan makes clothing meant to be worn often and kept for a long time.
Molly Hiett Dery grew up in El Paso, where the desert light, dramatic storms, and sunsets shaped the way she sees color. She named her label after her grandmother and launched it in 2022. Now based in Austin, she splits her time between her studio and a part-time career in anesthesia. Every Molyan piece is designed and stitched by hand, one at a time.
Chainstitch is one of the oldest embroidery techniques there is: a single looping thread drawn into a continuous line, traditionally used for Western wear and workwear. In Molly’s hands, it turns into something looser and more expressive, almost like drawing with thread. It takes time, it can’t be rushed, and you can see that in every piece.
